Kupu Spirits Honored with Silver and Bronze Medals - Kupu Spirits

Rated by ADI 2023 International Spirits Competition Judges

Kihei, Hawaii (May 17, 2023) – Kupu Spirits is proud to announce that the distinguished American Distilling Institute (“ADI”) has awarded Kupu Spirits three medals at the ADI 2023 International Spirits Competition. Kupu Spirits’ Gin earned a Silver Medal, while the newly bottled Barrel-Aged Gin and blended Whiskey each won Bronze Medals in their respective category and class.

Lead Distiller Nick Reiss stated, “We are appreciative of the recognition the judges gave our Kupu Whiskey and Gins in this year’s American Distilling Institute Spirits Competition. We are grateful be able to represent the Island of Maui, as we showcase these expressions of traditional spirit styles”.

Award-winning Kupu Spirits Gin ranked “very good quality for its class and category” which exemplifies a Silver medal distinction. It is distilled from grain and a proprietary blend of botanicals including juniper, local citrus, lemon peel, licorice root, and hibiscus. This is not the first award for Kupu’s Gin. Last year, Kupu Spirits Gin became a Platinum Winner at the 2022 Ascot Awards and earned a Double Gold Medal as the distinguished “Best Gin” from The Fifty Best.

The new Barrel-Aged Gin is distilled from grain and a proprietary blend of botanicals including juniper, coriander, local citrus, angelica roots, and grains of paradise, then aged three months in Port casks offering notes of licorice, citrus and rosewater. While the BA Gin is being released in a very small batch, a large-scale launch will be planned for later in the year. The designation of a Bronze medal for its class and category for such a young batch is praiseworthy.

Kupu Spirits Whiskey is distilled from a blend of corn, rye, and malted barley then aged on the slopes of Haleakala in new charred American oak barrels. The 88 proof Whiskey is an exceptional expression of caramel and vanilla building to peppery spicy notes with a hint of nuttiness.

Since 2007, the American Distilling Institute began the annual “Judging of Craft Spirits,” the oldest and largest competition dedicated to craft spirits. The competition recognizes distillers providing the finest quality artisan spirits. This year, approximately 850 entries were received from the US and 22 international countries on 5 continents for evaluation across 36 Award Classes and 134 Award Categories.
